Rest

Rest

Where do we find it? Where, actually, do we look for it? Is it out there in the future or a memory from the past? If we get caught in this loop of connecting the past, which is no more and a future we can never predict, then or bodies enter into a state of tension and stress, causing a loss of sleep, but, more importantly, a loss of who we truly are.

Sitting in the quiet of the day or night, with the sounds of cars going by, or more necessarily, the birdsong, echoing, "Here I am, Lord, in your presence. Right now!", helps us enter into True Rest. We feel our bodies relax, and then we feel the tingle of utter joy that just "is" when we just  "are".

Then we can reflect more deeply as we take time to enter into the silence and experience the "scent of water" that Job describes. It is there when we finally get a sense of immeasurable love, vast beyond reason, yet holdings all things together in a vice-like grip that is gentler than the feathers of a hen gathering her chicks in the comfort and safety of her wings - warm, dark - letting in just enough light lest we get overwhelmed by the wonder of it all.

Rest is made for the body, mind, and down to the cells and atoms that are interconnected, all of which is meant to bring meaning all together so we can feel, especially through the suffering and pain. Rest then comes for the shy soul. Rest that is entered into right now.
